Conflict Resolution

What is Conflict

Conflict is a typical phenomenon we experience everyday and everywhere; workplace is no exception. Its actually part of basic human tendencies where every individual wants to achieve something which either contradicts or coincides with someone else's ambitions / schedule / work / goals etc. And the thing is, everyone want's to have things as per their liking. Conflicts can be good or bad. The Good Conflicts result in growth of individuals, team bonding, team achieving something (if work as a team in competition with others or towards a common goal) etc. While bad conflicts result in friction in team, strained relationships etc.

Humans are driven by needs and/or wants. In corporate world we call them aspirations / ambitions - a corner office, a fancy designation, high pay (in comparison with others) etc denotes them. But the intensity of achievement vary based on the personality. Not everyone is a 'wolf on wall street', but not Gandhi either. These varying shades of personalities react to conflicts differently and hence end up with different results. And the deciding parameters for conflict resolution styles are typical human traits - emotions which value relationship over reward, values over ambition (and opposite) etc.

Conflict Resolution Styles - Compete (Defeat)
'Goli Maar Bheje Mein' - The Ambitious, Single-minded, Focused, Practical, 'Achieve at any Cost'

Conflict Resolution Styles - Withdraw (Avoid)

'Ok! You Win' - The Subservient, Timid, Low on Ambition, 'Let's Avoid the Conflict'

Conflict Resolution Styles - Accommodate (Give In)
'Let's be friends' - The Emotional, Accommodating, Value Relationships, 'People matter over things'

Conflict Resolution Styles - Compromise
'Let's Share!!' - The Middle Path Taker, Balance Things, 'Let's maintain peace'

Conflict Resolution Styles - Collaborate
